tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8807685073027188764.post8769295326916674784..comments2024-03-14T08:38:46.219-07:00Comments on Biophilia: Fiction, more or lessBurkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08135758421220520531noreply@blogger.comBlogger1125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8807685073027188764.post-27807099138482599222012-11-04T05:55:40.725-08:002012-11-04T05:55:40.725-08:00Your blog points out the urgent need for a serious...Your blog points out the urgent need for a serious re-editing of tne Bible; not just another "new translation", but a full-up reworking to make it both more user-friendly and credible.<br /><br />Some thoughts:<br />-- much shorter, 400-500 pages with larger font (keep double columns with numbered paragraphs, nice traditional touch;<br />-- some illustrations; greatest art in the world is Christian religious art (picture = 1000 words);<br />-- many fewer pseudo-historical trivialities (who begat who, ect);<br />-- adopt modified King James style, keep Thou, art, spake, etc, but up-date more archaic/obscure words and constructions;<br />-- keep famous, poetic passages (by the rivers of Babylon, lord is my shepard, ten commandments, lord's prayer, etc); great stuff and gives text credibility;<br />-- as much as possible, clean up inconsistencies and historical overlap, differences between old and new testament are more acceptable, because God seems to have had a genuine change of heart, at least as explained by son;<br />-- miracles, appiritions could be softened, but should be kept where integral to text (creation, great flood, daniel-lions, fish-loaves, etc.)<br />-- maybe a preface to point out that Bible is a combination of mythic history, based on stories passed down in oral tradition, and words of prophets who were only human and in most cases illiterate, so we're only getting 2nd/3rd/4th hand accounts of what they said/did, and, finally, that the Bible has been heavily edited/curated/reorganized over the centuries, with this being just one of many, many versions;<br />-- finally, and most importantly, revision/re-editing should be done by a single individual or small group of like-minded individuals, not some massive ecumenical committee with umpteen "biblical scholars";<br />-- focus should be on poetry and evocative stories, as opposed to completeness or "accuracy"; a limited number of charts and maps may be helpful.<br /><br />I'm looking for a large, multi-year grant to undertake this project, in the interest of social harmony and world peace.<br /><br />Catfishhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00663654862333451912noreply@blogger.com
