...Brainwaves are in no way related to clock speed!

Biological neural network have no "clock" in the way the term is used in logic electronics, where transistor changes state synchronously with the others.

Every neuron discharges freely.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8807685073027188764.post-43564142006675008572011-05-29T13:56:38.485-07:002011-05-29T13:56:38.485-07:00Hi, Goo-

I really shouldn't have brought up the whole place cell mechanism, which Brandon et al, which I was mostly working from, skirted.

Koenig et al. state "Other spatially modulated cells in the same cortical region and place cells in the hippocampus retained their spatial firing patterns to a larger extent during these periods without well-organized oscillatory neuronal activity."

and "Compared to grid cell firing, the firing patterns of cells in the MEC with nonperiodic spatial firing (spatial nongrid cells) and of hippocampal place cells were better retained during reduced theta oscillations."

So what is one to make of that? I suppose that the precession phenomenon was nullified in the absence of theta, but location-specific firing still happened in place cells. In contrast, the whole grid pretty much dissolved.Burkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11158223475895530397noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8807685073027188764.post-23265070696165783922011-05-29T12:49:59.550-07:002011-05-29T12:49:59.550-07:00In paragraph #17, i think you mean "within th...In paragraph #17, i think you mean "within the theta rhythm"GeorgeKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05633458151584303216noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8807685073027188764.post-66143022208965613112011-05-29T12:16:26.862-07:002011-05-29T12:16:26.862-07:00@gregory
